European Documentation Centre (EDC) is an integral part of the School of International Relations of the St. Petersburg State University. It was established in accordance with an agreement between the Commission of the European Communities and the St. Petersburg State University signed on 21 August 1995 with an aim to create an information base for academic and applied research and to inform the general public about the current issues of European politics. EDC in St. Petersburg is the only such centre for the whole North-West of Russia. It has a ‘full EDC’ status, which means that it receives a full set of official documentation on all EU policies. Analytical reports and reviews that describe all aspects of the Union’s policies are also available. There is also information on educational and environmental programmes as well as on projects for the development of small and medium-size enterprises. Complete texts of Community legal acts, as well as of the case-law of the European Court of Justice, are represented in full since 1995. EDC librarians are ready to help in browsing the resources of the Internet, where many official EU documents have been published in the last two or three years. Some official publications exist also on compact discs, which makes the search for necessary information much easier. The European Documentation Centre hosts the St. Petersburg city seminar on European studies, as well as some other seminars and conferences for researchers and students. The EDC closely cooperates with the recently established Regional Centre of Documentation and Information of the Council of Europe, which is also situated at the School of International Relations of the St. Petersburg State University. This constructive neighbourhood creates unique opportunities for research on European and international topics.
